Proposed Hydro-electric Generation

The Power Department has given top priority to the Generation Schemes to make up the peak demand shortfalls. As a policy matter the Department has taken up many generation schemes under short-term and long-term measures.

Hydro Generation :

The hydro potential of Manipur, assessed at 60% Load Factor by the Department, is 1350 MW. However it could not be harnessed fully due to paucity of fund. The hydel projects that are to be taken up in the state under the Central Sector and State Sector are as follows :

Micro Hydel Schemes proposed to be implemented by NHPC :

As proposed by the State Government, the Central Government took initiative to implement the following hydel projects in the state through the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) on " deposit basis " during the 9th Plan. The projects would be funded through 50% subsidy to be made by the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources, Government of India and the balance 50% to be arranged by NHPC through loan/bonds. On completion, the projects would be handed over to the State Government for their operation and maintenance. The State shall have to pay back the amount contributed by NHPC. The projects to be implemented under this scheme are listed below.

New Proposals :

A). Proposed Micro Hydel Schemes to be implemented under Capital Subsidy Programme.

The State Government proposes to implement/ investigate the following hydel projects with different funding agencies. Investigation schemes for medium sized projects are funded by Govt. of India as an Additional Plan Assistance through NEC. The micro hydel schemes are subsidised by the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources, Government of India. The projects not covered by the above will be taken up under State Plan.
